Flossing and consistent physical exercise had never been part of my routines, neither growing up or as an adult. I knew I should do both, but it was easier to procrastinate and think I'd do them someday. I never flossed and my dental hygienist always scolded me for my bad gums, and I would wish that I had perfect teeth like other people. I would also always look at other people with great physiques and think wouldn't it be nice to have one… someday. Well, I now floss daily and work out twice a week—not because I have to, but because I want to. I got tired of listening to complaints from my dentist, and I learned that it wasn't that hard to work in a two minute routine into my morning brushing; and I learned to actually enjoy working out because Shana made it enjoyable to "torture" myself. But the best benefit of all is actually seeing my 60th birthday… feeling better than I ever have… and that includes a hip replacement in 2006 and a three month hospitalization with a staph infection from which I almost died.
With Shana's help, I've regained my health. I truly believe that I would not be alive if I had not exercised and learned the importance of taking care of myself. She knows just when to motivate you to move to the next level, and stroke your ego to encourage you to do more than you thought possible. She's enabled me to improve my self-concept and actually look forward to working out…even legs… which has never been my favorite. She encourages me to use proper form and has taught me the advantage to doing exercises correctly, rather than just going through the motions. I've learned that nutrition is an integral part of the work out/longer life process… maybe I shouldn't have that pint of Ben and Jerry's just because I'm craving sugar… maybe there is a better alternative. I've worked with other trainers in the past, but neither of them provided me with the knowledge, experience, and motivation I've received from Shana.
Shana's comments on Ford
Ford talks about how I've inspired him, but if the truth be known, it is he who inspires me. He has been faced with some tough health challenges the past few years. But in the face of it all, he's never given up and has battled back with a determination and positive outlook that is truly miraculous. Sixty never looked so good.
